Indulge in the nostalgia with Chewy M&M Cookies, packed with colorful M&Ms and chocolate chips for a delightful treat.
When I was a kid, my brother and I would always fight over the M&Ms. Not the cookies—the candy itself. He’d go straight for the blue ones while I hoarded the reds and yellows, convinced they somehow tasted better. We’d sit cross-legged on the living room floor, sorting them into little piles before finally eating them one by one.
That love for M&Ms never really went away. Even now, there’s something so joyful about those pops of color against a soft, chewy cookie. They’re nostalgic, playful, and somehow taste even better warm from the oven. These Chewy M&M Cookies are my way of bringing that childhood memory into the kitchen—only this time, no one has to fight over the colors because every cookie is loaded with chocolate chips and M&Ms.

Why We Love These Cookies
Every bite of these cookies feels like a little celebration. They’re chewy, chocolatey, and bursting with pops of candy-coated color. For me, they’re a reminder of childhood afternoons sorting M&Ms by color, only now I get to pass that memory on by baking these with my own family. They’re simple, fun, and guaranteed to make everyone smile.
Chewy M&M cookies are the perfect blend of comfort and fun. They’ve got everything we crave in a cookie: buttery edges, soft centers, melty chocolate chips, and those iconic candy-coated pops of color. They’re not just delicious—they’re nostalgic. Every bite feels like being a kid again, when grabbing a cookie warm from the oven was the best part of the day.
We also love how versatile they are. Bake them for holidays with themed M&Ms, make them oversized for a bakery-style treat, or keep them classic for everyday snacking. No matter the occasion, they bring joy to the table and a smile to anyone lucky enough to grab one.
Ingredients You’ll Need

- 2 sticks butter, softened – The buttery base gives richness and keeps these m&m cookies tender.
- 2 eggs – Provide structure and moisture, helping the cookies stay chewy.
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar & ½ cup white sugar – Brown sugar brings chewiness and depth, while white sugar helps the edges crisp.
- 2 tsp vanilla – Adds warmth and that classic cookie flavor.
- 2 tsp baking soda – Helps the cookies spread just the right amount.
- 1 tsp salt – Balances all that sweetness.
- 3 cups all purpose flour – Provides structure for thick, chewy cookies.
- 1 ½ cups chocolate chips – Extra melty goodness in every bite.
- 1 cup M&Ms – The star ingredient, bringing crunch, color, and fun to the mix. You could use standard-size or mini m&m
Step-by-Step Instructions

- Preheat & Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. - Cream the Butter & Sugars
Beat the softened butter with the brown and white sugars until light and fluffy—about 2–3 minutes in a large bowl. You could also use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment - Add the Wet Ingredients
Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla. - Combine the Dry Ingredients
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add to the wet mixture until just combined—don’t overmix. - Add the Chocolate & M&Ms
Fold in chocolate chips and most of the m&m candies, saving a small handful to press onto the tops of the dough balls before baking. Let the dough chill for at least 30 minutes, but optimal chilling time is 2-4 hours. - Scoop & Bake
Scoop dough into 2-tablespoon balls and space them 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Press a few extra M&Ms on top (this is what makes them look bakery-perfect). Bake for 11 -13 minutes, until edges are golden but centers are still soft. - Cool & Enjoy
Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack for cooling. Or do what I always do: eat one warm, with the M&Ms just starting to melt.

Tips for Success
- Underbake slightly for that chewy center.
- Chill the dough for the best texture!
- Make them festive by using seasonal M&Ms (pastel for spring, red and green for Christmas, etc.)
