I went to the grocery store today and spotted these gorgeous strawberries and couldn’t resist purchasing a carton.  When I got home and realized National Margarita Day was just a couple days away, I knew I had to come up with a delicious margarita to celebrate! I kept it simple by just pairing some tart limes with these sweet strawberries to make some Strawberry Lime Margaritas!fresh strawberries and limes

When is National Margarita Day?

On February 22nd every year, we honor this tequila based cocktail with a special day of celebration.  The classic cocktail was invented sometime during the 1930’s or 1940’s.  Frozen margaritas were invented later in 1970’s when a bartender converted a soft serve ice cream unit into a frozen margarita machine! Whether you like it with salt or without, it is the most common tequila based cocktail in the United States today.  Hence National Margarita Day!

What goes in a Strawberry Lime Margarita?

With any margarita, you start with the basics:

Tequila

Triple Sec

Add some fresh strawberries

A good amount of fresh lime juice

Honey for a little sweetness

How do you make a strawberry lime margarita?

Juice 4 limes by cutting them in half and squeezing them over a measuring cup or blender.

Cut 1 pound of fresh strawberries in half for easy blending.  If you use frozen, omit the ice in the recipe below.Recipe

Place the strawberries, lime juice and honey in a blender.  Blend until smooth.

Add the tequila and triple sec and blend until well mixed, taste and adjust alcohol if necessary.

Add ice to the blender and blend until ice is crushed and smooth.  The margarita should have a slushy consistency.

To add salt to the rim of your glasses, moisten them with a lime wedge and spread salt on a plate.  Dip the rim of the glass in the salt.  I used Hawaiian black salt on the rims of my glasses.
