Cozy Apple Cider Sangria for Fall Gatherings
As soon as the crisp fall air rolls into Chicago and the leaves begin to turn golden, I know it’s time to break out one of my favorite seasonal drinks: Apple Cider Sangria. There’s just something magical about sipping a chilled glass filled with autumn fruits and cinnamon while catching up with friends under twinkling patio lights. Every year, I love hosting small fall gatherings — and this sangria has become a staple on my table. It’s refreshing, slightly spiced, and perfectly balanced between sweet apple flavor and a subtle kick from the vodka.
Why We Love This Apple Cider Sangria
This recipe brings together all the flavors of fall in one glass — bright apples, warm cinnamon, tangy orange, and the gentle sparkle of cider and wine. What makes it extra special is how easy it is to prepare ahead of time. You can let the flavors mingle in the fridge, making entertaining completely stress-free. Plus, it’s as beautiful as it is delicious — those ruby cranberries and orange slices floating in golden sangria make every glass look like a little autumn sunset.

Ingredients You’ll Need

- 1 bottle white wine (I used Sauvignon Blanc): Sauvignon Blanc adds a crisp, citrusy note that pairs perfectly with apple cider. Its light body keeps the drink refreshing rather than overly sweet.
- 2 ½ cups fresh apple cider: The heart of the recipe! Fresh apple cider gives the sangria a naturally sweet, spiced base that screams fall. I always pick some up from the local farmers’ market this time of year.
- 1 cup carbonated water: This adds a delightful fizz that brightens up the drink, making it feel extra festive.
- 2 cinnamon sticks: Cinnamon brings warmth and coziness — the scent alone makes your whole kitchen smell like autumn.
- 1 cup vodka: The vodka adds a subtle depth and a little extra kick, turning this from a simple punch into a party-worthy cocktail.
- 2 apples, chopped (I used Honeycrisp): Honeycrisp apples are my favorite for sangria — they’re crisp, juicy, and hold their shape beautifully in the drink.
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon: This ties everything together, enhancing the apple cider and reinforcing those classic fall flavors.
- ¼ cup cranberries: A pop of color and tartness that balances the sweetness of the cider and wine.
- 1 orange, chopped: Oranges bring a hint of citrus brightness that complements the apple and keeps the sangria lively.
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger: Fresh ginger gives the sangria a lovely zing — just enough spice to make each sip more interesting.
How to Make It
- Start by layering your fruit: In a large pitcher, combine the chopped apples, oranges, and cranberries. The colors alone will make you smile!
- Add the flavor boosters: Sprinkle in the ground cinnamon and add the cinnamon sticks and grated ginger. This step infuses the base with warm spice.
- Pour in the liquids: Next, pour in the white wine, vodka, and fresh apple cider. Stir gently to combine.
- Chill and infuse: Cover and refrigerate the sangria for at least 2 hours, or overnight if you have time. The longer it chills, the more those fall flavors mingle and deepen.
- Finish with sparkle: Just before serving, pour in the carbonated water to give it that bubbly lift. Serve over ice with a cinnamon stick and a few floating fruit slices.
Tips for Serving
- For a festive presentation, rim your glasses with cinnamon sugar.
- You can easily make a non-alcoholic version by swapping the wine and vodka for sparkling apple juice and ginger ale.
- Try using pear cider instead of apple cider for a twist on the classic flavor!
